ClimActs proudly joined the global climate movement demanding effective climate action at COP21, the United Nations climate negotiations being held in Paris from 30 November to 11 December 2015.
To amplify our climate justice message, the Climate Guardians took letters and artworks from Australian children to UN COP21.
The Climate Guardians were proud to serve as conduits for the voices of concerned young Australians at COP21. Understanding the seriousness of climate findings, as well as the fully feasible and affordable solutions to address its grave threats, the Climate Guardians had conceived COP21 demands – read in English or French – to drastically reduce greenhouse gas pollution as well as address gross and worsening inequity. No longer can the unravelling of UN climate negotiations be used as an excuse for ‘business as usual’.
In addition to supporting rallies and protests with spectacle, Climate Guardians performed as part of ArtCOP21, an exceptional global climate festival connecting hundreds of thousands of people rising to the climate challenge. ArtCOP21 hosted an extensive global programme of over 180 major public art installations, exhibitions, concerts, performances, talks, conferences, workshops, family events and film screenings, taking place right around Paris as well as in 22 countries (and counting) around the world. ArtCOP21 events highlighted “the need for governments meeting in Paris to support strong climate action and signal the end of the fossil fuel era – making climate change a people issue, not one to be left solely to the politicians.”
Also, surely you wouldn’t be surprised that – on breaks from representing Australian delegates at COP21 and promoting their Cooking With Coal & Gas: Recipes for Disaster cookbook – the Coal Diggers were in Paris to launch their new Eau de Coal Owne! Paris perfumeries are still reeling!
