Songs

The Climate Guardians do not speak. We use the power of voice and gesture to state our demands. Here are some adapted songs to get you started. Gestures include holding hands in front of face (weeping angels), or linking thumbs (palms facing face). Cast eyes downward. You can paste the lyrics into a black moleskin exercise book.
We sing in harmony. As a guide the first note is the melody the second is the harmony.

Silent Night:

Round yon hurting Mother and Child

 Human rights

Barren, forsaken earth

Summertime:

Climate Change
And the livin’s not easy
Seas are rising
And the planet will die
Oh, the earth is cookin’
And glaciers melting
So blush little baby
Go on and cry

One of these mornings
You’re going to rise up swimming
Then you’ll spread your limbs
And you’ll take to the sea
But ’till that morning
There’s a’noone to warn you
With daddy and mammy toe-ing the line

Climate change
And the planet is warming
Rich are pumping
the carbon up high
Coal is burning
But the pollies aren’t acting
So blush little baby
Go on and cry.

Rounds (listen to mp files to learn tunes)

Our Poor Bird

Your Poor Earth
Climate Plight
Angels Weep in sorrow
Your darkest night

White Sands and Grey Sands

Coal seam and shale gas
Who would mine these coal seams
Who would mine this shale gas

Rock of Ages

Flood and drought beset the land
River basins turned to sand
The Pacific islands drowned
Tuvalu’s lost solid ground

All the fish stock vanishing
Species we are banishing
Heat waves scorch the young and frail
Science warns to no avail

Mining Magnate’s subsidies
Solar can’t compete with these
When we sue the high command
We shall take the witness stand

Polar ice caps melt and thaw
Let me hide my face in awe
When the arctic ice is gone
We shall meet a fateful dawn

Oh, come, all ye faithful:

Oh, come, all ye fateful
Mournful and despondent
Oh, come ye, oh, come ye to mayhem

Come and withhold hymns
Forewarn the ring of angels
Oh, come, let us deplore coal
Oh, come, let us abhor gas
Oh, come, let us deplore oil
Curse of the World.

Biased to coal we
Blight and fright eternal
Warnings spurned when
The counsel comes
None the hereafter
Avow its disappearing
Oh, come, let us deplore coal
Oh, come, let us abhore gas
Oh, come, let us deplore oil
Curse of the World.

Sing, choirs of angels
Sing in desolation
Sing, all ye citizens of armegeddon!
Sorry our brood
We thieved the planet’s finest
Oh, come, let us abhore coal
Oh, come, let us abhore gas
Oh, come, let us abhore oil
Curse of the World.

Acclimatised Skinny Love

Skinny Love
Come on Skinny Dove just last the year,
Soar above the storming, warming sphere,
My my my, my blue sky, my dying sigh…
Staring at the brink of flood our last frontier.

Coal and Oil and Gas will wreck it all,
Cut out all the hope and let us fall,
My my my, my blue sky, my dying sigh…
Carbon emissions, our curtain call.

And they told us, be complacent,
And they told us it’s all fine,
And they told us to be balanced,
And they told us, tow the line,
And we’ve been warning they’ll lay waste to,
What should be our peace of mind,
‘Cause they’ll enbolden all the bigots,
And keep fracking poison mines.

Come on skinny Dove, what happened here?
Suckle on the hopeless atmosphere,
My my my, my blue sky, my dying sigh…
Suddenly lonely earth, the air unfit.

And we told you we’re impatient,
And we told you to resign,
And we told you we will challenge,
And come after all your kind,
And when our children’s future’s wasted,
Then who the hell should die?
‘Cause now we’re breaking corporate business,
We’re at the end of all their lies.

Who will live true?
Who will fight?
And who will fall far behind?

Come on skinny Dove,
My my my, my blue sky, my dying sigh
My my my, who stands by, and who defies …

You Oughta Know

We want you to know that we are on to you
That we want nothing but your insolvency
A younger version of me
Will they breath as easy
Will our children have enough food and water
Will they speak eloquently
Fighting for their babies
Will they adapt to really excellent weather

cause the poison you left in our air and our ground
didn’t shame you enough for you to go run and hide,
And every time we speak your names
We’ll remember you told us endless lies
Until you die, till you die
But we’re still alive

And we’re here to remind you
Of the mess you left with your carbon trade
It’s not fair to deny us
Of the cross we bear that you gave to us
You, you, you oughta know
You seem very rich, things look peaceful now
We’re not quite convinced, we thought you should know
Did you forget about us Mr. Duplicitous
I hate to bug you while you’re on such a winner
It’s a slap in the face how quick our future’s erased
Are you thinking of us when you fuck it?

’cause the gas and the shale and the coal we inhale
weren’t filthy enough for you to be cast aside, no
And every time we speak your name
We’ll remember the toll of the rising seas
And still you lied, still you lied
But we will survive

And were here to remind you
Of the mess you left with your toxic trade
It’s not fair to deny us
Of the cross we bear that you gave to us
You, you, you oughta know

’cause the yoke that you made are the drills we blockade
And we’re not gonna fade
As soon as you close your eyes, and you know it
And every time we litigate, and shut your mines and hack
we hope you feel it…well can you feel it

Well, we’re here to remind you
Of the mess you left with your filthy trade
It’s not fair to deny us
Of the cross we bear that you gave to us
You, you, you oughta know
